Who: women who want to trim down, tone up, and get your cardio going even while you’re sleeping
When: Saturdays, 8:30a
Where: WRT marker 180
[Note: to see who's attending, join us on MeetUp.com under "Dallas Women's Walk Group". There is a link in the blogroll to the right of this post. We meet just below Winfrey Point, which is near the Dallas Arboretum. Take Garland Road to Emerald Isle Drive (next to Barbec’s and Autumn Leaves Retirement Home). Go all the way down Emerald Isle (straight) and either park at Winfrey Point (if you veer left), or park where Emerald Isle ends (you’ll see where). Walk to the point where Emerald Isle dead ends into the walking/running/bike path and there will be a skinny, metal post with a round sign on it directly on the other side of the path that reads: 911 WRT – 180. The 180 marker is our meeting point.
If it’s sunny, you’ll need a visor or cap in addition to your sun block. Faces get burned pretty quickly and you’ll be walking/standing 60 minutes out there. As for sun block, use oil-free or water-based or the like. Oils clog your pores and can cause your body to overheat. Do NOT wear make-up on your skin for the same reason – pore blockage. They’ll need to breathe. I usually have minimal mascara on that morning and that’s it. This is not a beauty contest… you get to be beautiful later!
Also, bring ear buds. I’ll be sharing my iPod Shuffles with the music for walking. My intention is to show how the music actually makes the walk easier AND makes progression faster. Something else to consider is a hand towel. I tuck one into my pants waist and I use it [for sweat]! Members who have already experienced the heat during the walks have begun wearing visors and carrying towels. There 3-4 water fountains along our way, so no need for water since we can hydrate en route, but I DO encourage having a cold water ready for yourself in your car when you’re finished. This is simply as a precaution during the really hot days in order to bring your body temperature back down quicker. For cold weather, be sure to layer your clothing so you can start out warm and peel down as you heat up – wear clothing with arms that will tie around your waist or neck should you remove it.
We chat a little before and after, so be prepared to spend an hour or so this Saturday morning… and be prepared to feel really good afterward!
Forecast: the forecast is tenuous – it could be raining Saturday morning. In case of rain, the walk will be moved to noon or even cancelled and I will note it on the Meetup.com site that morning, 45-60 minutes in advance of the walk. Many times it’s not raining at White Rock Lake even though it’s raining at your house! We will walk based on the weather at White Rock.
I am on Facebook as ‘Bodyconomics’ (feel free to join!), and I tweet at ‘ToniBurtWalks’ on Twitter. MeetUp.com, however, is the most accurate for walk listings at this point.
I look forward to meeting you!
